Value is the regard that something is
held to deserve; the importance, worth or usefulness of something. By carefully
prepared and taught lessons, students can be made to understand and appreciate the value of a particular lesson. The value exposed by a particular lesson can be
applied in other areas. This is very easy if the objectives contain therein reflect the future
aspirations of the students. This will arouse interest to grow ,followed by appreciation.
To develop ideals or values in the students,
they must be helped to understand what the goal is, and that such goal is desirable.
In developing values in the students, the following suggestions are to be followed:
-Encourage
learners to make choices and to make them freely.
-Help
learners to discover and examine available alternatives when faced with
choices.
-Assist them
to weigh alternatives thoughtfully, reflecting on the consequences of each.
-Encourage
students to consider what it is they prize and cherished .
-Give them
opportunities to make public affirmations of their choices.
-Help them
to examine repeated behaviors or patterns in their lives.
As a result of the above, learners will
have a mastery of whatever they engage in leading to best results and greater
productivity.
