"10 SIMPLE WAYS TO SUCCESSFULLY STUDY NUMBERS, THAT NO ONE WILL TELL YOU".

                                      

I often hear statements from students like "I hate to see numbers"," I do not like mathematics". "Math was not meant for people like us". I am usually taken aback by such statements because you begin by blocking your mind.Worst of it is some students say so because friends have done same.I want to challenge you that nothing on earth can be more than anyone who truly makes up the mind to achieve it.Remember, nature is the greatest provider of what you desire most.The forces of nature are always hovering around to deliver your desires.If you begin by rejecting math, nature will take it away and you will remain empty. By saying

"I am bad at math” or “I am not a math person” the only conclusion that comes to mind is that you are not equipped for logical thinking which is highly contradictory because the human brain is designed to think logically and analytically. You have personally deprived yourself of these gifts.

 The blame should not all fall on the students.Mathematics and Number Theory in particular is at times taught in such a way that you are forced to perceive it as a stranger. The teachers themselves teach it in such a way that students really can’t understand it no matter how many times they try. So teachers need to review their teaching methods.As a student who has decided to hate math and numbers in particular,the only way out of this sad situation is to apply the following principles if you want to excel. 

1. Determination : Be determined that you will understand everything that you want to know about math no matter what.
2. Rid yourself of negative thoughts: When we keep on telling ourselves that I can’t do it ,I just can’t, you are feeding your self with negative energy and then you seriously can’t even solve simple algebra. Instead develop a positive attitude and tell yourself “IT IS JUST MATH LIKE ANY OTHER SIMPLE SUBJECT”.
3. Passion: Develop a passion for it and you are bound to gain success.
4. Understand which mode of instruction is better for you: Are you an autodidact? Do you learn best by reading? Do you learn best by watching, listening or are you a hands on learner?. Choose the method that is easy to you and apply it aggressively.
5. Use resources available to you— the internet, books, videos such as khan academy you tube videos, JM patrick’s tutorials 
6.  etc.
7. Develop a positive mind set.
8. Have fun.
9. Take it slow.
10. Work hard.
11. Never quit.

I had the same problem; number theory frightened me because my teachers were not able to understand the mode of instruction that favored me until when one day I was in a do or die situation and decided to teach myself number theory and mathematics as a whole.The mode of instruction I used was "hands on learner, that is, actively solving exercises" on pieces of papers and chalkboard ,and now I enjoy it. The thing I used to hate in my childhood became dear to me.

Try to understand the basic concept of a given topic like addition and subtraction of fractions and build upon it; do  practice problem solving and if you made mistakes it is okay. It is a stage of learning. Try to understand why you made those mistakes by contacting your teacher. Then deeply understand the ideas, correct them and form a solid ground for those concepts. After that apply them to real life situations. You can also create your own way of solving questions just for fun :).

Then steadily increase your difficulty. Build upon the concepts you previously learned and also do this if you think you faced yourself with a difficult question. Retreat to your basic ideas or do a question you can easily solve and deeply understand what you did there.
